Wishing you a festive V.D.

Actually, this has been, so far, a better Valentine's Day than most in recent memory. Not only did I get the traditional (workplace name redacted) big, red heart-shaped box of chocolates from the boss, but the owner of the company (not my boss, exactly, but the mother of my boss) decided to buy us pizza for lunch, from my very favorite pizza place. I had "Pizza of the Gods"--artichoke hearts, mushrooms, tomatoes, garlic...mmmmmm. Okay, I'll go home tonight to Pudge and the cats, and there will be no wining and dining and declarations of love, but I'm sure the memory of the pizza (and my lingering garlic breath) will carry me through.

I was also invited to today to join a group of women who meet for monthly potluck/drinking/bitching sessions. I was very flattered to be asked, since the insecure, shy child within me is always amazed to think that anyone might be desirous of my company. Which is weird, since I know intellectually that I can be pretty fun to hang with--I'm quick with a quip, and never a mean drunk. At any rate, I accepted eagerly--the women seem to be all very bright and accomplished, and it sounds fun. Drinking and bitching--who wouldn't love that? I thought it was an informal kind of thing, something akin to my "cat lady lunch" group, and then I found out the group actually has a name, and suggestions for potential members are approved in advance by the membership, and for some reason that makes me laugh. I don't know why. I guess I'm just hoping they don't take themselves too seriously. We'll see, I guess. But in the meantime, my inner Sally Fields is saying "They LIKE me! They really LIKE me!" Hee.

Sounds like a good day! And garlic breath will help keep the vampires at bay, so that's always a good thing. Nothing like a wily vampire showing up to ruin your Valentine's Day!

I wish so much I could find a group like that. Most of the women I work with are either much older or much younger, and they just don't congregate much. :-(

Yay for new friends! Unless it's some weird cult or a boring bunch of elitist snobs. But I'm sure it's neither of those. So have fun. :-)

And that pizza sounds fabulous. Or, almost fabulous. Take off the mushrooms and substitute olives instead and I would have been very, very happy.

Oooo... That sounds like a very fancy drinking group! I hope it was fun!

libragirl, any day can be made better by pizza!

dcmm, unless they're Christopher Moore-style vampires, that would definitely put a damper on an evening!

I've been pretty lucky in recent years on the like-minded women friends front--I've got a few different groups that gather fairly regularly. It's like stitch-and-bitch, only without the bothersome stitching. Hee.

stef, I'm fairly sure it's not a cult. As for the snobbish elitism--well, time will tell, I suppose!

You don't like mushrooms?!? Well, I guess our shared love of olives will carry our friendship through. ;)

-r-, I haven't gone to an "official" gathering yet, so I'm still not entirely sure what I've gotten myself into. But I met several of the members doing the "Fridiron" last weekend, and they were fun, so...I'm sure it will be a good time.

I can't believe you copied Mr. Compliment's unusual nickname for the holiday! ;)

3car, I thought it was funny until I read your blog this morning. Now I'm thinking I must be disgusting. But may I say, you're looking unusually well today. ;)

That sounds like a fantastic day! Where can I find one of these prestigious drinking clubs, anyway? Hooray for new, fun friends!

Ha. My mind is totally in the gutter. I read the title and thought, "I'm sure I've pissed someone off enough that they've wished me to have VD, but I don't think they've ever wished it 'festively.'"

Anyway, congrats on being included in the group. I'm always shocked when someone I don't know very well expresses an interest in sharing my company. It's like, whoa, are you talkin' to me?

gg, well, you could get involved in rescuing stray cats--that's how I met the cat ladies (and acquired [redacted] cats--hee). Or you could spend a lot of time donating your singing/acting talents to worthy causes--that's how I met these new friends. Short of that--how DO adults make new friends?

sparkling, I always like to be polite when wishing festering sores on someone who's wronged me. Hee.

What's not to like? ;-)

Artichoke hearts are the perfect valentine's day pizza topping. You could pair them with hearts of palm if only that wasn't a really gross idea. At my workplace, we're lucky enough to have two husbands of teachers, so we always get the leftover candy.

awww, stinkypaw, thanks!

noelle, now I'm wondering if hearts of palm WOULD be good on a pizza. They're good together with artichoke hearts in a salad...hmmm...

If you start to feel the situation going south, just flash your boobs. Oh wait, right response, wrong audience.

jef, I know there is at least one lesbian in the group, so she might appreciate that. I think I'll try to get by without it, though. Unless maybe they'd throw me some beads...hee!
