Omigod, REALLY?

This is a direct quote (on a fan message board) from a shaken Clay Aiken fan, following his recent public admission of what we all knew, anyway:

"This is really shocking news as I had no idea he was gay," read a comment posted by "Sheridansq." "And now I have to deal with this. I am not sure what to say to people who know I was a fan. ... I didn't go to work today and am not answering the telephone."

I am speechless. You couldn't go to work? Seriously? You had NO idea? Really? I just...wow. And from what I've seen of the "claymates," this is probably a middle-aged woman we're talking about here. The mind boggles.

I was going to regale you with feral kitten-wrangling tales, but now...I think I have to go soak my head.

Honestly? I'd say this person must live under a rock. A rock with cable, apparently.

Wait... so she's embarrassed because she's a fan of a gay person? That can't really be it, can it?

Why is this so devastating to her? And why does it prevent her from working or answering the phone? I don't understand.

Was she stalking him and has just now realized that it won't be true love 4 ever = Clay + Crazy Lady?

A local radio station gave a teaser: "We have big news about Clay Aiken coming up." They reported that he had a baby, and were very dramatic about it. "Can you believe Clay Aiken's a dad? I did not know that. That is big news! Oh yeah, and he's gay, but a DAD! He's a DAD!" :)

Umm, PS, why are you reading Clay Aiken fan message boards?

-r-, I wasn't actually reading the boards. I was...reading an article about the reaction of his fans to Clay's "coming out." I realize that doesn't sound all that much better. Does it help if I say it's slow at work today? No?

If it makes you feel any better, I just read that article about 5 minutes before I came over here. It was so much more interesting than working on what I'm supposed to be working on right now.

Wow. Just....wow. This is so wrong on so many levels.

And by this, I mean Clay Aiken's homosexuality.

(just kidding).

Does this mean doesn't watch Project Runway because *pssstt* Tim Gunn's kinda gay, too.

Ya, I had to get my gay-der re-calibrated his signal was so strong.

I'm guessing middle-aged accounting clerk who consumes 1/2 gallon of Haagen Daas ( Ben & Jerry whatever ) per week watching Grey's Anatomy/E.R.

Wow. Of all the things to be concerned you "have to deal with." If a pop star's sexuality is her biggest problem in life, I'm guessing she's doing all right. (Except, um, NOT, really, since I doubt anyone this shaken by a pop star's sexuality is "doing all right" by any means.)

I recently heard that water is wet. And I am shocked. Shocked, I tell you!

Whoa! There is SO much I would be freaked out about in world BEFORE Clay Aiken "can't be gay!" I wonder what else is going on in that person's life?
