Date update

Well, there was a date this weekend. (I had thought there might be dates with two different guys, but the doctor who was uber-eager to meet me via "MeMarmony" never returned my phone call. The one he requested that I make. What is it with guys who can't wait to "fast track" and then just disappear? He owes me $59.95, since I stupidly paid for another month of membership, JUST to respond to him. Maybe he's just been busy. Or maybe he's an ass. Gah.

Okay, back to the date I did have. I "met" this guy Friday morning on..."Flenty of Pish." We talked on the phone twice that day, and agreed to meet for coffee Friday night. His first words--"you look just like your picture." He seemed relieved--must have had some bad experiences. Heh. There was definitely physical chemistry, and we had a lot of fun. The (immediately apparent) downside? He's a McCain supporter. And I know, I know...plenty of people have "mixed" relationships, and 20 years ago, it might not have even occurred to me to ASK a question like that (although, for the record, HE is the one who asked it first), but now...I don't know. I finally decreed that if there was any chance for us to enjoy each other's company, then all political topics had to be off the table. Completely. And we stuck to it.

He wants to see me again, because he finds me very "interesting," and he likes "the way I put things." We actually talked about going on a "real" date Saturday night, but then he cancelled because he wasn't feeling well. We did talk several times on the phone through the weekend, and he called on his lunch hour, so...we'll see.

In the meantime, every time I log into "Flenty of Pish," I am instantly bombarded with men wanting to chat. I've actually been asked out twice just today. It's a bit insane. I've never been very good at juggling men, but the BFF thinks I should go out with any and all of them, just to keep busy, and keep my mind off...what was his name again? Heh.

Flenty of Pish, eh? I've never heard of that one.

The McCain supporter sounds very nice. I think you can certainly disagree on politics. It gives you plenty to discuss, and it's only one of a million qualities about a person. Most of you all haven't broken up with ME for supporting McCain. :)

Glad the weekend went well. Maybe the doctor had a "medical emergency". :)

I agree with your BFF, because there are plenty of fishes after all! ;-)

I briefly used "Flenty of Pish" before I gave up dating in favor of getting drunk with my cat in my parent's basement and flirting with the idea of taking up "cutting." I couldn't handle the amount of men slamming me with chat session...especially if they asked if I had a webcam, pretty much immediately after initiating contact. After some married dude sent me a very detailed description of his privates and what he wanted to do to me with them...at pretty much anytime of day (which he proceeded to detail), I broke up with Flenty of Pish.

Now I'm back to Snatch.com. (I bet that will give you great search results. HEE!)

There's a part of me that wants to believe that "Snatch.com" exists. Although one can only imagine what it would be like. Especially the profile pictures.

MeMarmony cost $60 a month? Holy hell. If I were paying $60 a month, I'd expect someone to drive Clooney over to my house.

I agree with BFF - the more guys you meet, the more likely you are to get past the stinkers and find a good one. If nothing else, you'll have some good stories to blog about.

And a guy who can have differing political views and deal with it like a mature, reasonable, adult... well, that's worth a real date.

3car, the best thing about Flenty of Pish is that it's free. Of course, the worst thing is also that it's free. Hee.

stinky, yeah, but so many of the fish are dripping with pond scum!

pants, yeah, most of the IMers I've just shut down the minute they've popped up, but after days of no activity at all on the pay sites, it's kinda fun.

tony, do you think Shoshanna would have a picture of hers in the jar? ;)

flurrious, it's cheaper per month if you pay for several months at a time, but I refuse to do that. One month is plenty for me to get a feel for who's out there.

spark, I suppose it's true that you have to first kiss a lot of frogs. I guess I'm just ready for my frog-kissing days to be over!

$60 a month! That is insane. I guess it balances out though, since that other site is free, right? And also, you get tons of fun dates out of it, so... go MeMarmony!

It would be wonderfully adult like to pretend that you would get along even though hes a mccain supporter, but there has to be some reasons why you are not. Meaning a year from now are your values going to be the same, and if his are not what then?

I think this guy sounds promising (McCain supporter or not). I agree with the others that say you should go out on a lot of dates. That's the only reason I went out with Hot Brazilian because his profile really did not make me want to meet him. But we've been dating for almost 2 years now. Sometimes you just don't know until you meet a person.

I don't know if I could date a McCain supporter. Although I haven't disowned my parents for being Republicans or anything...

Hmm. I'm torn on this one. I feel so adamently opposed to the McCain/Palin ticket that I just don't think I could do it.

Ugh! The Hubster is a Republican and we just agree to disagree when it comes to politics. If I think of the ways I describe myself and my values, my political party is rarely in the Top 10. If he is hot, just use it as an excuse to touch his bum and slap on an Obama sticker!

You talked "several" times over the weekend? Perhaps I'm just not a phone person. To me that sounds like you must have had a remarkably good time. Good luck! (Republican or not...)

Also, I think it's funny that if you Google "meMarmony," my blog and your blog (and other people in our neighborhood linking to or talking about our blogs) make up all the results. Actually, I think it's funny that there are ANY results beyond my blog. I totally started a trend! :-)

And for anyone alarmed by the $60/month thing, we should point out that it's $60/month only if you buy just a one-month membership. That's how they get you: the cost goes way down if you commit to a several-month deal.
