I "heart" e-file

You know, the one good thing about not making a great deal of money, owning no significant property, etc. is that it's so stinking easy to do my taxes. I just e-filed (for free!) my tax return and should have my refund in my bank account by the end of next week. Yay! Sometimes I love the internet.

So, do you all e-file? Does anyone out there still file paper returns? I would assume that anyone who spends as much time online as a blogger necessarily must would, of course, e-file, but since I recently found out that there are still hip, young people who mail checks to pay their bills, (right, Stef?), I suppose it's possible some of you do the old-fashioned tax return, as well.

To each their own, I suppose.

Now the fun part--what should I buy with my $522? Or should I just soberly and responsibly transfer it to savings? Ha!

I've never e-filed. But despite having a blog, I'm severely challenged technically (but do pay all of my bills online). My taxes have always been very easy too. However, this year I've been selling Pampered Chef and I have expenses to write off, etc. I'm kind of scared already.

sauntering, you should consider TurtoTax. Seriously, they walk you right through everything.

Hello!!!

This is so off-topic. I have nothing to say about e-file. I admit, I didn't even read your whole post about e-file. What I did do was end up on your blog after googling "fine haircut Tulsa" and landed on your October "I got my hair cut by a new person" post. And then I searched your blog to see if you mentioned Tulsa enough so that I could be reasonably certain you live/work/pass through here on a regular basis (NewGuy sounds very nice!) And then I clicked your header and learned you posted a new entry today and that this is not a dead blog in the water.

You don't have your email published. I'm hoping you'll forgive me for hijacking your comments section to ask where you went for your hair cut? I'm new to Tulsa ... I had one really bad haircut here already. I do not do the poofy fiddle thing, either. Knowing where you got your hair cut will at least give me some direction in trying another place out.

Again, so very very sorry for writing all over your comments section. If you would like to delete this after reading, I'm cool with that. But before or after, could you send me the name of you haircutting person and where he/she/it works?

Please?

Thank you (I hope!)

I may write checks to pay my bills, but I DO e-file my taxes!! I use H&R Block's version of "TurtoTax" (I'm guessing you typoed that on purpose to avoid search engine hits?) Same program, as far as I can tell, but half the price.

I'm impressed you've already done your taxes, though! I haven't even received my papers from my employer yet. :-(

I *heart* "TurtoTax" even though I'm an accountant who spent three years preparing tax returns and should be able to to it on my own without much trouble. Tax returns are a pain.

My SIL last year went to H&R and sat there for 10 minutes while they entered her one little w2 and e-filed, then wrote them a check for $75 for doing it! Crazy! If someone has only one w2 and didn't get a telefile form this year, at least use TurtoTax for less or try the paper way. $75 is robbery.

And my vote is for a little shopping with the refund.

Thank goodness I screwed up our taxes the first year we were married. Now an accountant does ours for us and e-files. I really wonder why they don't phase out the paper.

just the thought of having to get my taxes ready for the accountant this year makes me break out into a cold sweat. since my husband is self-employed (Inc.) I have someone else deal with the crap.

i vote for buying something really nice for yourself with your refund! i'll be thinking of you spending your money while i'm sure, we'll be paying out the ass again this year.

Technically, I e-file, but I do it through an accountant. I consider him a luxury akin to a massage. Even though my taxes are now super-easy, I like having it be the one step of mailing my W-2 to him.

And also, even though I'm a child of the 'ands, I get many of my bills in the mail. I just can't remember to pay them if I only get an email reminder.

I love e-file! I'm jealous, cause I can't submit until I get my student loan interest statement on the 31st.

I'm all about choosing one special thing to buy from your refund and putting the rest in a rainy day fund. Or, in my case, a sunny day fund--my 2006 return paid for my vacation to Jamaica!

I generated all slips for misc. clients' employees online. Easier, no need to align their pre-print slips, etc. But, for filling our reports I do it on paper, because our accountant does it on paper, and not online, and unlike you we don't get money back. I can't even remember the last time I got a refund.

Spend that money on YOU!

I pay some of my bills with checks too. Shocking, I know! But I do use Turtotax. I couldn't e-file two years ago because we didn't finish filing out our info until the night taxes were due, and you have to wait one day before e-filing. Yes, I am super responsible.

We e-file, but that's only because the Mr. does the taxes. When I did them, we did it old-school style.

I say use half to buy yourself something you need/want/read about in a magazine, then save the other half.

I love the e-file but I'm always worried I did something incorrectly and that I'll end up owing the government money later on. So far, so good though. I'm still waiting on my student loan info AND my W2s, so it might be a while.
